Najib Razak |
PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said by ignoring the
matter, Najib had allowed a good opportunity to clear his name to go to waste.
“The people were waiting for PM’s response in his winding speech,
but he did not even touch the subject. Had the opportunity been taken give an
explanation, it would reach many as his speech was given such wide coverage,”
he said.
He opined that Najib's silence only fuelled suspicion at the same
thing giving credibility to the allegations.
Carpet dealer Deepak Jaikishan spoke to several media recently on
his relationship with Najib’s family and his involvement in getting a witness
in the murder case of Altantuya Shaariibuu, private investigator P
Balasubramaniam, to retract his statutory declaration claiming Najib's personal
involvement in the saga.
Bala, who was hired as private detective by Abdul Razak Baginda,
the former aide of Najib who was acquitted by the court of murdering Altantuya,
issued the statutory declaration on July 3, 2008, before retracting it the next
day.
In 2009, Bala claimed he had been paid RM5 million by Deepak to
retract his first statutory declaration.
DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang meanwhile described Najib and Defence
minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s silence on Deepak’s allegation implicating Najib’s
family in a RM100 defence ministry project in 2005 as the most disturbing event
in the just concluded UMNO annual congress.
“Haunting Najib at the 66th UMNO General Assembly was the ghost of
Altantuya Shaariibuu. Why couldn’t Altantuya’s ghost be appeased?” he asked.
