Malaysia Airlines Says It Orders 10 737-800 Jets

Flag carrier Malaysia Airlines said on Tuesday it was taking up options for 10 Boeing 737-800 medium-haul aircraft, worth $800 million (557.5 million euros) at list prices.

A press statement posted on the Malaysia Airlines website said that the order for the additional aircraft was made at the Paris Air Show.
The Next-Generation 737 is digitally designed and is the most technologically advanced airplane family in the single-aisle market. Malaysia Airlines 737-800s are Asia's first in featuring the passenger-pleasing "Boeing Sky Interior". They also possess Blended Winglets, which enhance fuel efficiency, expand flying range, and lessen takeoff noise and CO2 emissions.

"Today we celebrate Malaysia Airlines as key member of the Next-Generation 737 family of operators and we welcome this occasion to strengthen our long-term relationship with a valued partner," said Boeing Commercial Airplanes Vice President of Sales Marlin Dailey in announcing the order. "The selection of the Next -Generation 737 to support the airline's strategic fleet modernization plan reinforces the superior economics of the most fuel efficient single-aisle airplane operating in today's market."
"The option we exercised today marks another step in Malaysia Airlines' mission to strengthen and build upon the airline's award-winning service and passenger value, efforts that support the company's business transformation strategy to profitable operation," said Malaysia Airlines Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, Tengku Dato' Sri Azmil Zahruddin Raja Abdul Aziz. "Boeing's Next-Generation 737, with its economic advantages, including unmatched fuel efficiency, is the right airplane to support our business and our customers."
Malaysia Airlines was named the "World's Leading Airline to Asia", "Asia's Leading Airline", and "Asia's Leading Airline Business Class" by the World Travel Awards in 2010. This year, the airline isnominated in five categories by the same organisation.
