Siah Tells Police: MoCS Not A Security Threat

The MoCS chief says he is not a security threat as he is only asking Taib to step down, and is not attempting to overthrow the state government.
JOHOR BARU: Movement for Change, Sarawak (MoCS) leader Francis Paul Siah told the Sarawak police today that there was no point in harassing him to record a statement while they allow the biggest crook in Sarawak to get away scotch free.
“Recording a statement is not the issue. I am asking the police to treat all citizens fairly. Call Taib Mahmud (Sarawak chief minister) in as well for a statement and I will dutifully do so,” he repeated an earlier request today.

Siah told FMT in a telephone interview from here that he received a SMS from a CID officer in Sarawak yesterday, asking him when he could give his statement.
He responded that he was not in Sarawak and asked whether the police had also requested Taib to do the same.
“The police must be fair in law enforcement. Please treat all citizens fairly,” Siah added.
The MoCS leader also wondered whether the Sarawak police attempted to contact him again after the movement sent a memorandum to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Monday seeking the king’s help on the allegations of corruption and power abuse against Taib.
“It would be sad if the Sarawak police are acting on instructions of politicians in the state. They must be professional in discharging their duties,” he said.
Siah also spoke about a series of events with the police after he lodged a police report against Taib for corruption and money laundering on March 13 this year.
“The same day, a police officer called me asking me to give a statement that night. As it was a Sunday, I said that I would do so the following day (Monday).
“When I turned up at the Kuching division police headquarters at Simpang Tiga, the investigating officer (IO) was not present. I was informed that he was engaged elsewhere. Then I contacted Kuching OCPD Mun Kok Keong and he was kind enough to get another officer to attend to me.
“However, I was hard pressed for time myself as I had already wasted 45 minutes there. So I told the officer to inform the IO that I would wait for him in my office the next day (March 15). But the IO did not turn up at the appointed time and up till today, I was not asked to have my statement recorded again.”

Meeting The IGP
Siah said he was “disappointed and disturbed” by police action on the matter.
“Over the past three months, I have personally witnessed how the police work. They were not interested in my statement after I lodged the report against the chief minister. But they insisted to have my statement after Taib’s boys lodged police reports against me.
“This is a clear case of double standards. This is not acceptable. We expect the police not to be subservient to political masters,” he said.
Siah said MoCS would seek a meeting with Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar soon to discuss issues pertaining to the police in Sarawak and the movement’s plan to hold peaceful protests on Aug 13.
The MoCS chief claimed he was not a security threat as he was only asking Taib to step down, and was not attempting to overthrow the state government.
“MoCS people and myself are peace-loving citizens. We will not break the law. We are up against a corrupt chief minister because we love and care for Sarawak. We have no ulterior motives,” he stressed.
Siah also said that he had a good working relationship with Sarawak police during his years as a journalist and editor in the state.
